African dwarf frogs (Hymenochirus boettgeri) are among the easiest amphibians to keep as pets. They are also a good choice for a classroom aquarium, providing lots of opportunity for observation and study.
WHAT YOU'LL NEEDif you want to give African dwarf frogs a home in your classroom--
A 1.5 gallon aquarium Aquarium gravel and a few plants (for example, elodea, sagittaria or ludwigia) Water purifying solution Frog food: frog pellets (HBH Frog and Tadpole Bites work nicely) or live or frozen blood worms and/or brine shrimp
All of these are inexpensive and available at your local pet store.
Optional to improve your frog habitat: a filter and some small snails to help keep water clean, some small rocks or other accessories.

Dwarf frogs usually cost between $2.50 and $3.50 each.

Some pet stores recommend live food for dwarf frogs, but we have found this to be unnecessary. Our year-old frogs are thriving on HBH Frog and Tadpole Bites.
