| Gardens > Activity 16 Scramble S*U*N*F*L*O*W*E*R*S Grades 2 through 6 Materials: S*U*N*F*L*O*W*E*R*S pattern, dictionaries, paper, pencils or pens Easy Instructions: Print "Sunflowers" letters and make a copy for each students. Have students cut out letters. Noodle around with the letters to make as many words as you can. Write them all down. Use words in sentences OR make up sentences using only the words you've written down. How many words can you come up with? What's the longest word you can make? What's the longest sentence? Can you string sentences together to make a little narrative? Wonderful sunflower words: elf, nose, slow, fun, news, flows, lore, sworn, wren, runs, fur, snore, woeful, frowns, slower, few, foul, rue, lures, floe, wore, sour, foulness, flosser, funless, souls. Sample sunflower sentences: We run slower. Sun flows on us. We sow sunflowers. We surf! Our son frowns on furs. Older students: Divide students into groups of five or six and COMPETE to see which group can come up with the most words, longest words, or the longest, funniest or most interesting sentence. Rules: All words must be found in the dictionary; every student in the group must know the meanings of all words submitted; sentences must make some kind of sense, however strange. |
