Chart—How Many Dots on a Ladybug?

This is an excellent way to introduce a classroom to making charts or graphs. Working as a group, the chart can be drawn on the blackboard. The results come from asking the students to raise their hand when you ask, "Has anyone seen a ladybug with only one dot?" Be sure to explain the horizontal and vertical axes and to discuss the results. If more than one classroom makes a chart, then it would helpful to compare or combine all the results. It might also be helpful to discuss a chart or poll found in a newspaper or magazine.
