Earth's Birthday Mission
The Earth's Birthday Project (EBP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to igniting children's intrinsic sense of wonder for the natural world, while inspiring them to take loving actions on its behalf.

Thank you's to teachers
The Earth's Birthday Activity Kit represents the hopes and dreams of adults who are passionate about inspiring children to have a positive impact on their world.

The staff at the Earth's Birthday Project headquarters extend their thanks to teachers Deanne Velasquez, June Parnes, and Leah Gibbons - teacher/consultants who provided ideas, insight, and critical consideration to each of the activities assembled here. And our special thanks to Priscilla Logan, dedicated educator and pioneer of the outdoor classroom, and the primary teacher consultant for this Activity Kit.

The wonderful photos of butterflies, caterpillars, and chrysalides were generously provided by Robin Laughlin.

Moth The Earth's Birthday Butterfly Program is an established, annual event. Each spring, classrooms across the country throw a birthday party for the Earth, culminating in the release of butterflies - butterflies that students raise from caterpillars right in their own classrooms!

We hope this 48-page Activity Kit will become one of your favorite education tools. Full of engaging lessons and ideas that are easy to use in the classroom, the Kit incorporates science, math, music, art, and language components throughout. Most importantly, the Earth's Birthday Activity Kit is designed to help you maximize the learning experiences butterflies and moths provide. Use it year after year!

About the Earth's Birthday Project
Environmental education that works
In 1989, the first Earth's Birthday Party was held on Earth Day in New York City's Central Park. Over 5,000 children participated, releasing butterflies they had raised as gifts to the Earth.

Today, Earth's Birthday butterfly release events are the most popular way for schools across the country to celebrate the Earth!

In recognition of its outstanding environmental education programs, EBP has received awards of excellence from The Renew America Program, The Nature Conservancy, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Thank you to
Toyota USA Foundation for
making this Kit possible.
