Interview with a Butterfly
Grades 2-6 Activity = Science, Language Arts

This language arts activity assists in remembering all about butterflies.
Get to know your butterflies! Have kids pair up and create questions to ask Painted Ladies Print out the Wings & Things Cards to guide them! Write the script, and then perform the interview for your class, other classes, or parents on the day of your butterfly release.

For example:

One student can pretend to be a famous lepidopterist (scientist who studies butterflies), meeting a Painted Lady Butterfly (played by another student) for the first time.

Lepidopterist: So, Miss Vanessa Cardui, I hear that you are in over 50,000 classrooms in the United Sates right now! How did you get chosen for this great honor?

Painted Lady Butterfly: Well, Painted Ladies are native to all 50 states, meaning that we can live everywhere without upsetting the balance of nature.

Other sample questions:

What kind of plants do you like to eat as a caterpillar?

How long do you stay a chrysalis?

Do you migrate?

What can we do to make you more welcome at our school, or in our city?
