1. For individual journals, have the students draw what they see every other day, and write (or have older students write) their descriptions below the drawings. You can use the butterfly shape for the inside pages!

2. Play a measuring game! (Kids should measure the caterpillars through the clear, plastic cup Ð caterpillars don't like to be handled.) See what in the room the caterpillars are bigger than, the same as, or smaller than. For the game, set a group of 8 items on a table. Have kids measure each item after measuring the caterpillar, and see which are larger, smaller, or the same as the caterpillar. As the days go by and the caterpillars grow, do this activity again!

3. Count the days the Painted Lady spends in each stage. Create a classroom calendar, and glue a caterpillar, chrysalis, or butterfly (use art) onto each day of the week.

4. Use the observation hints in Butterfly Sense as ideas for asking and answering questions as a class.
