Iguana (Iguana iguana)

Iguanas are among the largest lizards in the world. They can be nearly 7 feet long, with most of their length in their tails. They like to live along rivers and streams, eating fruit, leaves and insects.

Iguanas are often found perched on a branch overhanging a river. When they threatened will plunge into the water for safety. In Belize, iguanas are called "bamboo chicken" and are considered a delicacy. They are now protected because too much hunting has greatly reduced their population.
