Big Gift to the Earth 2009: Rainforest One of the most effective ways to offset carbon pollution New in 2009! Help stop global warming by conserving South American rainforests: $50 purchases and helps protect one acre of rainforest and offsets 50,000 pounds of pollution. Every penny, nickel, dime and quarter counts! The Billion Pound Challenge Take the challenge! Help stop global warming by purchasing and preserving rainforest. Our goal in 2009: 1000 schools x 1000 students x $1.00 = 20,000 acres of rainforest = 1 billion pounds of carbon pollution offset! Every day, the average American adds more than 100 pounds of carbon pollution to the air by using electricity and gasoline. Offsetting carbon pollution is a major step towards stopping global warming—and preserving rainforest is one of the most effective offsets. Big Gift Conservation Partners Big Gift 2009 conservation partners include the American Bird Conservancy, Nature & Culture International, and the World Land Trust-US. Conservation partners are responsible for applying donations to the purchase and long-term protection of Big Gift sites. Conservation partners will also match donations to the Big Gift to ensure that for every $50 one acre of rainforest is purchased and protected! Big Gift Rainforest Donations in 2009 will protect rainforest in Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. Acres will be included in the Podocarpus-El Condor Biosphere Reserve—approved by UNESCO with the support of local communities—and El Paujil Nature Reserve in Colombia, habitat for twenty critically endangered or endangered species. Earth’s Birthday Project will accept donations for Big Gift 2009 as of January 1, 2009. Big Gift to the Earth 2009—a partnership between the American Bird Conservancy, Nature and Culture International, World Land Trust-US and Earth’s Birthday Project.
