Our Mission
Earth’s Birthday Project educates children about the Earth—its beauty, resources and conservation. Our programs engage children in scientific inquiry and empower them to act as informed and responsible citizens.
Since Earth’s Birthday Project’s founding in 1989, more than 15 million children have participated in Hands-on Classroom activities and the Big Gift to the Earth. The key to our success is the tens of thousands of teachers who volunteer their resources and time to make EBP activities available to their students.

Meet Cliff Ross
As a science teacher, Cliff Ross could get the whole school excited about dropping eggs off the roof, cockroach races and experiments with rotting food. He knew that kids could get excited about science when they were having fun and discovering something they had never imagined. Then he founded Earth’s Birthday Project and decided to get teachers everywhere excited about teaching science and math through innovative, hands-on activities that are fun, simple, inexpensive and effective.

Our Partners and Funders
Generous gifts from foundations, corporations, private donors and our board of directors help fund the creation of science/math activities and the distribution of free materials to thousands of classrooms every year. In addition, Earth’s Birthday has several conservation partners, which oversee the protection of Big Gift sites and underwrite educational materials. With the support of these remarkable organizations, more than 15 million children have discovered wonder, learning and care for the natural world while participating in our fun, simple, inexpensive and effective classroom science activities. Since 1989, 400,000 acres of threatened rainforest have been purchased and protected.

Our Board and Staff
With a small core staff and a no-nonsense Board, Earth’s Birthday Project provides amazing learning experiences to classrooms year after year. Our work is to inspire teachers and students to discover wonder, learning and care for the Earth and all of its creatures. We couldn’t do it without the efforts of teachers and parents in cities and towns across the US.
